BlackBerry 10 L Series all-touch smartphone leaks on hands on video.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

BlackBerry 10 L Series all-touch smartphone  leaks on hands on video.

A comparison with the somewhat bulkier Dev Alpha B device and  the iPhone 5, a quick run through of the BB10 OS itself and a look at the removable back and  a replaceable battery.

Translated  from Vietnanis to English:

Fortunately for the evening I had the opportunity to holding the handset has not been the launch of the BlackBerry , the L-Series. Machine design is quite nice due to no longer be placed in a plastic frame as the Dev Alpha A / B again.

In addition, the L-Series was almost complete, both hardware and software. Perfect good quality and full functionality of the BB10 OS we've ever known, not locked or limited to a certain function, including making phone calls or texting.configuration information almost no official due to the present time RIM has not yet been referred to us.

What we can see on the L-Series is lightweight, smaller size Dev Alpha B a little, just hand.

Screen quality is quite good, very smooth and nice font, 1280x768 resolution with Dev Alpha B.

The front of the glass cover almost the entire front and stretched out to take two edges of the screen makes us feel bigger. terms of ports and port location, it is just like the the current Dev Alpha, including micro HDMI and micro USB on the left side, a 3.5mm audio port on the top edge, the power button on the top edge and 2 volume control keys on the right side.

The keyboard is a bit difficult to press as it is slightly sunk compared to the side of the machine. Regarding the quality of finishing, I can say the L-Series held its already almost perfect, not longer a pure form , could this be the final test version of RIM before they introduce BlackBerry 10 to 30/01 next year.

Although made ??of plastic, very solid body, no creaking joints and connectors on the camera body is made ??very carefully. The back cover of the machine can be removed so you can change it easily (batteries LS1, like Dev Alpha B). The back cover of the machine is made ??of plastic, similar to the body, it is quite flexible and the NFC chip affixed.

Adding a point to make the L-Series is more complete than the Dev Alpha is that it can normal calling and texting. This is a big difference compared to the previous Dev Alpha we have ever known.

I have tried to remove the SIM Viettel and called a SIM Mobi success, no trouble at all, the machine can also send and receive SMS messages, connect to BIS service, up Internet 3G delicious, in general it is not like a complete smartphone.

Even the software in the machine fully functional, not limited as before although the
BB version 10 that the L-Series is running is still a beta version. However, the beta should react slightly slower and not touch sensitive, sometimes hanging a place to restart the machine, the new normal is, hope that this error will not appear in the version of BB 10 officially.

Please click on the image below to enlarge the view:

The Hungarian site berryblog is posting a list of  Blackberry BB10's accessories which also are going to be a lot of cool , and which have already started to produce RIM's partners.

The list is as usual, batteries, docking station, and wine, but there are also a number of product categories, for the time being we do not really know where to (Flip Shell, Hard Shell Transform).

The different frames regarding the choice of colors for the time being in the black, white, gray and red colors is limited, and in addition will cause skin microfiber fabric carrying case is also a choice.
Although it is not clear from the list, in all likelihood, the L-series accessories have been added to the table, at least in this series has designated the L-S1 battery code.

RIM launched the BB Dev Alpha C for BB10 Qwerty devices.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

RIM launched the BB Dev Alpha C for BB10 Qwerty devices.

From the BlackBerry Blog:

We like to think that we broke the mold of a developer relations program when we started our BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing device program last May at BlackBerry 10 Jam in Orlando. Weve given out over 7,500 BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing devices to developers around the world at BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tours, BlackBerry 10 Enterprise Jams, and here at BlackBerry Jam Asia too.

As you know, there are BlackBerry 10 smartphones coming in Q1 2013 an all-touch model similar to the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha, and a BlackBerry 10 smartphone with our industry-defining BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard.

Today we announced the next phase of the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha program the BlackBerry Dev Alpha C. It is a testing device for developers so that you can adjust, debug, and test your BlackBerry 10 applications to get ready for the launch of the BlackBerry 10 QWERTY device next year.

Were only producing a limited number of these testing devices, and they will be reserved on a priority list for developers who have demonstrated that they are building apps for BlackBerry 10.

Distribution will be limited to developers who submit two or more applications; these developers will be given priority seeding for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C. These developers will be determined on the following point system:
  • 50 points for ported Android applications
  • 250 points for all other applications (Native, BlackBerry WebWorks, Adobe AIR)
  • 1500 points for Built For BlackBerry certified application
  • BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha A/B recipients start with 200 points
  • BlackBerry Elite Members start with 200 points
The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C offer will run from December 1, 2012 through February 5, 2013. The details on the program can be found here, and keep following @BlackBerryDev for more info.

RIM offers free voice calls over Wi-Fi with BBM.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

RIM offers free voice calls over Wi-Fi with BBM.

BlackBerry users will be able to make free voice calls over a Wi-Fi network using the popular BBM messaging service.

Research In Motion Ltd. announced Wednesday that it's adding the feature to BBM. Users will be able to switch back and forth from a text chat to a voice call. A split-screen option will let them talk and text at the same time.

The new feature is a free update for existing customers and comes months before RIM introduces its new BlackBerry 10 smartphones, which are seen critical to RIM's survival.

RIM surprised analysts in September when it announced that the number of BlackBerry subscribers grew, thanks in part to emerging markets and its popular BBM service. It's struggling in North America as customers migrate to flashier iPhones and Android phone.

RIM stopped short of offering the BBM voice feature over wireless carriers' own cellular networks. Doing so would have potentially created more congestion on cellular data networks and deprive carriers of revenue for voice calls. With the new feature, the free calls are limited to times and places where Wi-Fi is available.

The Canadian company said the BBM voice feature is especially attractive for developing markets. Unlike regular texts, BBM messages are not charged on a per-text basis.

Although RIM is struggling in North America, the BlackBerry continues to sell well in such markets as South Africa, Nigeria and Indonesia.

The BBM service has long been a reason for BlackBerry users to not defect to other smartphones but there are rival messaging services. There are more than 60 million BBM users worldwide.

RIM said the BBM voice update is currently available for BlackBerry smartphones running the BlackBerry 6 operating system or higher, with plans for BlackBerry 5 later. RIM's latest phones run the 7 operating system. The next version, BlackBerry 10, will come soon after a Jan. 30 launch event.

RIM has already said it plans business focused apps from the likes of Cisco WebEx, Box, SAP and Blackboard, as well as music and movie apps like TuneIn, Nobex and Popcornflix and gaming apps from developers like Gameloft, Halfbrick and Paw Print Games.

In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, RIM Chief Executive Thorsten Heins has said social networks such as LinkedIn, Foursquare, Twitter and Facebook will all have apps for BB10 at launch. But he declined to name any of the other big name apps that RIM will have on board come launch day.

"Allow me to talk to you about this on January 30, otherwise I'm losing a lot of thunder," he said.

BlackBerry 10 devices are set for launch on January 30, and targeting applications to customers in various regions.

BlackBerry 10 now being tested by 50+ carriers worldwide.Pentagon will keep carrying BB devices.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

BlackBerry 10 now being tested by 50+ carriers worldwide. Pentagon will keep carrying BB devices.

RIM CEO Thorsten Heins announced in a statement on Wednesday that handsets running the new OS were now being tested by more than 50 carriers worldwide.

BlackBerry 10 passes critical milestone - enters carrier lab testing.

Thorsten Heins, President and CEO, Research In Motion, said:

Im very pleased to confirm that we have passed a critical milestone in the development of our brand new mobile computing platform, BlackBerry 10. In the last week, BlackBerry 10 achieved Lab Entry with more than 50 carriers a key step in our preparedness for the launch of BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013. We made this commitment during our recent results conference call and we have delivered. This process will continue in the coming months as more carriers around the world formally evaluate the devices and our brand new software.

I have spent the last several weeks on the road visiting with carrier partners around the world to show them the BlackBerry 10 platform and to share with them our plans for launch. Their response has been tremendous. They are excited about the prospect of launching BlackBerry 10 in their markets. Our respective teams are now engaged on the technical and commercial preparation of the launch of BlackBerry 10 and the lab entry is an important milestone in that context.

The hard work will not stop here as we build towards launch. Our developer teams are continuing to generate momentum to bring a wealth of applications to BlackBerry 10, our enterprise teams have started to present BlackBerry 10 devices and services to our business customers, and our engineers are fully mobilized to ensure that BlackBerry 10 launches flawlessly in the first quarter of 2013.

In other news involving the mobile company, the Pentagon made clear this week that it would carry on supporting large numbers of BlackBerry handsets despite going ahead with plans to allow the US military to use other devices such as the iPhone.

The Defense Information Systems Agency is managing an enterprise email capability that continues to support large numbers of RIM devices, a spokesman told Reuters this week. A number of government agencies and businesses have said in the last year they would be issuing staff with iOS or Android devices, ending long-standing contracts with BlackBerry. While the Pentagon also appears to be relaxing its association with RIM, things are so serious at the Canadian company that the defense agencys announcement that its not switching entirely to rival devices will actually be perceived as good news by many.

The BlackBerry was once the phone of choice for many agencies and firms thanks largely to its strong security features. However, security on rival handsets such as Apples iPhone and a number of Android-powered devices has improved over time, offering an alternative to the BlackBerry.

RIM Blackberry 10 smartphones line release plans unveiled.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

RIM Blackberry 10 smartphones line release plans unveiled.

Research In Motion Ltd. plans to release its new BlackBerry 10 smartphone lineup on six continents in the first quarter, seeking to capitalize on the companys lingering strength in overseas markets.

RIM has already met with 30 carriers to show them the BB10 operating system and the response has been very positive, Chief Marketing Officer Frank Boulben said in an interview from the BlackBerry 10 Jam conference in San JoseCalifornia.

Weve been hearing things like, unique, revolutionary, really slick, said Boulben, who had just returned from a trip that included stops in Singapore, Mumbai and Johannesburg -- some of the markets where the BlackBerry remains popular.

Applications
RIM has already given out 6,000 BB10 prototypes to developers to help them build apps, and its making more, he said. There are also about 25,000 apps available for the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, which runs on software similar to BB10. Most of those should work on the new phones, RIM has said.

Facebook, Twitter
BB10 will work with apps from the top social-networking companies, including Facebook Inc. (FB), Twitter Inc., LinkedIn Corp. (LNKD) and Foursquare Labs Inc., Alec Saunders, vice president of developer relations, told an audience in a presentation to developers in San Jose.

BlackBerry Balance App.
Heins demonstrated some of BB10s new features, including BlackBerry Balance, which lets users flip between work and personal screen displays, and a retro-orange alarm clock that you set by rotating your finger around the dial.

Q1 2013 launch.
RIM is planning to have a splashy event early next year to introduce the BB10 phones, which will include touch-screen versions and more traditional qwerty keyboard models. Before that, RIM will have a progressive reveal of BB10s strengths with corporate information-technology chiefs, technology experts and media, Boulben said.

BlackBerry 10 L-Series smartphone pictures leaked.

Softpedia via BlackBerry Italia are reporting some pictures of the multitouch slab smartphones BB10 L-Series. Early rumors of 6 to 10 BB10 devices multitouch slabs and with qwerty keyboard were reported:

RIM licensed patent to Microsoft and shares jump.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

RIM licensed patent to Microsoft and shares jump.

Microsoft said the patent being licensed by RIM greatly expands the size of files that flash memory devices can handle and increases the speed at which those files can be accessed. The technology also provides the ability to seamlessly transfer data between a variety of different devices.

"This is potentially money out of RIM's coffers for the right to use the ex-FAT patent in its technology. But what it does for investors and others is provide a glimpse into what the BlackBerry 10 devices can do," said Kevin Restivo, a mobile device analyst at global research firm IDC.

RIM hopes the BlackBerry 10 will help it regain market share that has been ceded to snazzier devices such as Apple's iPhone and others that run on Google Inc's Android operating system.

Speculation has been around from sometime now about what and how many BB10 devices will RIM launch in early 2013:

RIM to support existing Blackberry devices with BB10.

RIM to support existing Blackberry devices with BB10.

In a statement sent to multiple media outlets RIM said that it is "developing BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) 10," which will "support existing BlackBerry devices, including the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and new devices running on the BlackBerry 10 platform." The new BES 10 platform will launch with BlackBerry 10 in the first quarter of 2013, and RIM said that existing BES customers will get an upgrade to the new BES 10 to ensure they can support older and newer BlackBerry devices.

BES 10 will also use RIM's Mobile Fusion software, which provides mobile device management support for devices running Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms in addition to BlackBerry devices.

RIM spokesman Nick Manning told FierceWireless that BES 10 will be able to support multi-server IT environments, in much the same way Mobile Fusion does now. "It should be easier for IT managers to manage multiple servers," he said. "It's not the case that you're going to have a BES 10 server and then also separately manage BES 5. You will do that all with BES 10."

While RIM CEO Thorsten Heins and his lieutenants have been pitching the innovations, including in the user interface, that BlackBerry 10 will bring, the company still needs to maintain the support of its core enterprise users. This especially important given the spate of high-profile companies and agencies--including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration--that have decided to drop the BlackBerry.

Heins will be showing off nearly finished "beta" versions of BlackBerry 10 devices to wireless carriers in the coming weeks as part of a crucial sales effort aimed at getting the operators to back the new platform.

Interestingly, Heins said that RIM will essentially have a "one-two punch" with two classes of BB 10 devices: one that is an all-touch experience and one that has RIM's classic Qwerty keyboard. Within those two types, RIM will offer three different devices, a high-end device, a mid-tier device and a low-end device, for six total.
