EA in talks with Microsoft to bring mobile games to upcoming WP8

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.
EA in talks with Microsoft to bring mobile games to upcoming  WP8.

“We’re working very closely with Microsoft to understand what their views on gaming navigation are,” Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore said in a phone interview before the annual Gamescom conference kicks off this week in Cologne, Germany. “Anything that allows more platforms to be adopted quickly that have a gaming element is good for Electronic Arts.”

“It is important to attract the gamers and due to Windows Phone 8’s relation to the classical Windows PC programs, it is a good platform for game developers,” said Robert Jakobsen, an analyst at Jyske Bank A/S (JYSK) in Silkeborg, Denmark. “This is clearly a step forward for Microsoft’s mobile operation system.”

Electronic Arts is counting on games on phones and tablet computers as well as Internet-based titles to reduce the Redwood City, California-based company’s reliance on boxed retail products. With sales of the mobile version of Windows 8 slated for later this year, Microsoft needs developers to create products for its platform to take on Apple Inc. ’s iPhone and devices powered by Google Inc.’s Android software.

Nokia looks to Europe operators alliances to drive WP8 new smartphone.

Nokia looks to Europe operators alliances to drive WP8 new smartphone.

Nokia is looking to work closely with a small group of operators for the launch of its first device powered by Windows Phone 8.

It was also suggested that the ailing device maker is set to offer its partner operators “a financial stake in the success of the range”, in order to provide an incentive to give devices as much sales and marketing support as possible.

According to the paper, Nokia has held talks with France Telecom about offering a smartphone through its Orange-branded businesses. This could also involve availability through Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile units, through the procurement joint venture of this company and France Telecom, the newspaper said.

It was also suggested that Nokia’s strategy “reflects recent success in the US, where it struck a similar sales agreement solely with AT&T”. However, it is not immediately clear how much of a success this has been – the operator has already cut the selling price of the flagship Lumia 900, and according to Nokia’s most recent results it only sold 600,000 devices across all of North America during the second quarter of 2012.

The proposed strategy contrasts with Nokia’s standard practice of making its devices available through the broadest possible sales channels.

According to reports last week, Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform may not make it to market until November,  which could put the smartphones running the new software into an extremely tough fight with Apple's next iPhone, thus making Nokia's job even tougher.

Windows Phone 8 will support multiple processors devices. Up to 64.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Windows  Phone 8 will support multiple processors devices. Up to 64.

Windows Phone Summit 2012 June 20,2012.

Windows Phone 8 will arrive on shelves with a shared core with Microsoft's Windows 8 platform, something that has been long rumored to be so.

It will be released this holiday, with elements common with Windows 8, including kernel, networking, multimedia, driver support.

Through making this move, Microsoft ensures that devices would arrive on shelves in a wider range of form factors and price points.

Microsoft announced that Windows Phone 8 would arrive on better hardware than before, including devices with multiple processors (the OS can support up to 64 processors on the same device).

Support for more powerful GPUs will also be included in the OS, so that users would benefit from a better multimedia and gaming experience.

Windows Phone 8 will add support for microSD cards, so that users can add increased storage space into the mix as they please, and it will also add support for more screen resolutions, including WVGA, WXVGA and true 720p.

Windows Phone 8 will be launched with Internet Explorer 10, which should deliver the same experience that IE10 on Windows 8 has to offer, including the same level of security.
