HP No. 1 in U.S. and Global Desktop Workstation Market Share.
PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 13, 2012
HP today announced that industry research firm IDC reported that, for the first time, HP leads U.S. market share in the desktop workstation category, and was the global share leader during the second quarter of 2012.
HP’s share showed significant growth during past quarters, culminating with a 47.6 percent share in desktop workstations in the United States. HP continues to lead the mobile workstation category worldwide with 41.8 percent share, and leads the combined workstation category with 46.2 percent share, according to the Q2’12 IDC Worldwide Workstation Tracker, Aug. 8, 2012.
"In this difficult economy, customers are looking for solutions that help increase productivity and ROI,” said Jim Zafarana, vice president and general manager, Commercial Solutions Business Unit, HP. “HP Z Workstations are used around the world to design everything from running shoes to blockbuster films because they provide customers with the performance, quality and value they require to create the next big thing in their industry.”
HP Workstations are designed to meet the needs of some of the most compute-intensive industries, including animation, film and video editing, graphic design, computer-aided design, architecture, photography, high-definition video, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, scientific imaging, and oil and gas exploration.

HP introduced its latest line of award-winning HP Z Workstations and HP EliteBook Mobile Workstations earlier this year, including the world’s first all-in-one workstation with a 27-inch diagonal display, the HP Z1. Customers moving to HP Workstations can take advantage of HP’s continued innovation in areas such as design, software and independent software vendor certifications for professional applications.
Each HP Workstation is passed through HP’s legendary quality assurance and testing process, which goes well beyond PC-industry testing requirements. Users of HP Workstations also enjoy further benefits of HP’s precision tuning, such as the system stability that comes with HP taking the time to certify drives for commonly used workstation applications from vendors such as Adobe, Autodesk, CATIA, Dassault, Revit, Siemens and SolidWorks.
