VerizonWireless Samsung Galaxy S III Upgrades to Jelly Bean

The latest smartphone to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean software upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy S^� III is the latest Verizon Wireless smartphone to be upgraded to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean. ( The update will be around 400MB. )The software upgrade, which will be pushed to customers in phases starting Dec. 14, also makes the smartphone Global Ready. Customers who would like to manually download the upgrade through the settings menu will be able to within the next week.

Jelly Bean includes enhancements and new features like Google Now, which can be accessed by holding down on the home button, and a new notification panel that displays missed calls and emails, allowing customers return the call or email right from the notification.

Customers will also notice enhanced camera capabilities. The camera now includes, new live camera filters to add an artistic flair to their pictures. Users can choose filters such as warm vintage, cold vintage, black and white, sepia, color highlights (blue, green, red/yellow). Another new camera feature allows users to pause and resume while recording video so they can record it all in one take.

Additionally, the new software will make the Samsung Galaxy S III the next ISIS-ready smartphone. Austin, Texas, and Salt Lake City are the first cities to take advantage of ISIS and customers in those areas will be able to turn their phones into mobile wallets to make payments wirelessly at various retailers.

On the xda.developers forum there are a long list of tasks to tweak your Verizon`s Galaxy SIII with the latest leaked Jelly Bean Build for Verizon. We suggest to try it if you are an expert or wait.

Verizon might be set to start pushing the update to devices as soon as December 14, some rumours said.

Contextual Awareness

 

(1) Page Buddy: Your phone will smartly predict what you intend to do according to your actions. For example, when you plug in your earphones, the device automatically opens up a page with the music player.

 

(2) Contextual Menu:  When you list up apps, you can now choose to see the most frequently used ones first. Especially convenient when you�re looking through apps  to find files to attach.

 

(3) Contextual Tag:  When you take a picture on the phone, you can tag the weather, date, and place immediately.

 

 

Enhanced Features

 

(1) Multi Window: You can open two different apps at the same time into two different windows on the mobile screen.

 

(2) Auto Share Shot Pairing using NFC: By setting the camera to �Auto Share Shot� mode, you can quickly share your photos and videos by simply tapping their GALAXY S III with other NFC and S-Beam enabled devices

Q3 2012: Samsung Galxy SIII named as top-selling smartphone.

Samsung�s Galaxy S3 overtook Apple�s iPhone 4S to become the world�s best-selling smartphone in Q3, according to Strategy Analytics � though the firm expects Apple to regain the crown in the current quarter.

The South Korean vendor�s flagship Android device clocked up sales of 18 million in the quarter, giving it a 10.7 percent share of the global smartphone market. Sales of the device more than tripled from the 5.4 million shipped in Q2.

�A large touchscreen design, extensive distribution across dozens of countries, and generous operator subsidies have been among the main causes of the Galaxy S3�s success,� said Neil Shah, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics.

Samsung itself only sporadically publishes smartphone sales figures. However, it confirmed earlier this week that the Galaxy S3 has surpassed 30 million global sales since launching five months ago.

Apple is said to have sold 16.2 million units of the iPhone 4S and 6 million of its successor, the iPhone 5, for 9.7 percent and 3.6 percent shares, respectively.

There were 127.6 million smartphones from other vendors shipped in the quarter, says Strategy Analytics, accounting for 76 percent of the market.

�We expect the new iPhone 5 to outship Samsung�s Galaxy S3 in [Q4] and Apple should soon reclaim the title of the world�s most popular smartphone model,� added Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics.

The carrier has confirmed that Samsung Galaxy S III 4G will be available for purchase starting October. 

Customers will be able to choose from two color options, Onyx Black and Titanium Gray.

Unlike the international version, the Australian variant comes with 2GB of RAM and LTE support, along with 16GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

With  Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box.

The device will be equipped with a quad-core Exynos processor inside. It will also boast a stunning 4.8-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with HD (720 x 1280 pixels) resolution, which features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The same 8-megapixel photo snapper will be included on the back side of the phone, while on the front the smartphone packs a 1.9-megapixel secondary camera for self-portraits and video calls.

If you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S3 4G on Optus before September 17, the carrier said that the phone will be shipped out on September 20. The service plan on Optus starts from as little as $30 (200MB data allowance) to $80 (2GB data allowance) per month with a two year contract.

Meanwhile, the 4G phone will only be available on Telstra in October, though no specific date has been given. You can register yourself on the carrier�s website to get timely updates of the phone�s availability. As for the price of the Galaxy S3 4G there, Telstra hasn�t provided any details either.

USA: Smartphones consumers supporting Samsung Galaxy SIII, the device is sold out around the country.

According to PC World a survey of 16 retailers conducted by Trip Chowdhry, the managing director for equity research at Global Equities, two Costco stores were sold out of Galaxy S III phones that run on the AT&T and T-Mobile networks, another sold out all its AT&T models and two out of three Sprint stores were sold out.

Three Verizon stores still had the smartphone, Chowdhry said, but the retailers reported that the Samsung device had been outselling the iPhone during the month.

All five AT&T stores polled said they saw "significant" sales of Samsung�s device in the first few days after the verdict.

Asked by PCWorld why a verdict favoring Apple was sparking sales for Samsung, Chowdhry replied: "The Samsung Galaxy S III is a very good and popular phone. People probably thought they may not be able to buy it in the future following the jury verdict."

Customers appear to have rushed out to buy the Galaxy S III, with some stores running out of stock of the smartphone, according to a report from Global Equities Research.
