Beware: Windows 8 attacked by first virus.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

system reset picture.

Beware: Windows 8 attacked by first virus.

A week since its release to the public and Windows 8 already has a virus specifically designed for it, which has already spread throughout the network. According to the Trendmicro security company, the malware that is causing chaos in the new OS is a Trojan and takes the form of antivirus. In addition, the company has prevented users of pages that offer free software.
The activity of this malware was detected in the days prior to the feast of Halloween, Trendmicro Internet security company. The company noted that there were two threats designed for Windows 8, a typical Fakeav, which took the form of an antivirus and a phishing attack , caused by a malicious file in an email.
The malware was a Trojan named ROJ_FAKEAV.EHM. This took the form of a virus and sent a warning banner to Internet users, stating that a virus had invaded the system. Thus, getting users to set an application to remove it from the computer, which was actually the virus itself.
This type of malicious files scanned the computer for passwords, bank account and other information of interest that can be sold on the network. In this case the gravity of the extent of the virus is unknown.
On the other hand, the security company has pointed out that this was malicious sites, i.e. those which do not have security certificates.
To avoid this type of incident, Microsoft has an antivirus itself, Windows Defender, which is already pre-installed on the software package. It disappears when the user install another antivirus.
However, the novelty of the software, its interface and its mode of use, it makes users more vulnerable than before to malware threats. This weakness constitutes an opportunity for the hackers who are already developing malicious files for Windows 8.
On the other hand, Trendmicro has detected an attack from phishing, found on pages that promised a free download of the latest software for Microsoft PC. In them, asked personal data to users as e-mail, passwords and other data that can be used on the network to commit criminal activities.
In this sense, the Association of Internet, which also warned of the problem, encourages users to be careful with files that you open, and offers a guide, developed by the FBI, with hints of cyber defence.

Logitech unveiled 3 new peripherals to work with Windows 8

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

Logitech unveiled 3 new peripherals to work with Windows 8.

Logitech today unveiled three new products designed to leverage the Windows 8 touch interface.

The lineup consists of a touchpad and two mice -- the Touchpad T650, the Touch Mouse T620, and the Zone Touch Mouse T400. All three peripherals use a tiny 2.4GHz USB wireless transmitter which can support up to six devices.

According to Mike Culver, Logitech's vice president of brand development for consumer computing platforms, the new devices "replicate the touch-screen experience that youve grown accustomed to on smartphones and tablets" and give users "quick, easy and dynamic access to the core elements of the new interface".

All three devices will be available later this month.

Touchpad T650
The Touchpad T650 is a rechargeable, wireless 2.4GHz touchpad that replaces the need for a touchscreen on your existing desktop or notebook PC. The glass surface allows the user to explore and operate the Windows 8 operating system with 13 unique gestures -- and there's even a gesture for accessing the Start screen.

The only time the Touchpad T650 isn't wire-free is when it is recharging, which it does via a USB cable. A single charge can last up to a month, so you're not going to be seeing that cable often.
Price: $79.99.
Touch Mouse T620
The Touch Mouse T620 is a smooth, pebble-shaped wire-free peripheral with an active surface that supports six Windows gestures for fast navigation through the operating system. It supports swipes, scrolls, taps, and clicks, all without a single physical button.
Another interesting feature of the Touch Mouse T620 is that you can customize the weight of the peripheral by choosing to kit it out with one or two AA batteries. A single battery offers a lighter mouse that lasts for three months, while two cells give the Touch Mouse T620 a solid feel, and lasts for up to six months.
The Touch Mouse T620 can also act like a standard mouse, and uses Logitech's advanced optical tracking to ensure pin-point precision.
Price: $69.99.
Zone Touch Mouse T400
The Zone Touch Mouse T400 is a more traditional looking wireless mouse, supporting three Windows 8 touch actions that are carried out on a dedicated glass "touch zone".
The Zone Touch Mouse T400 offers an incredible 18 months of battery life before the batteries need replacing -- which means you might be replacing your PC before you have to replace the AAs.
Price: $49.99.

HP to showcase a New Windows 8 BUSINESS class-system tablet, says Todd Bradley.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jess.

HP to showcase a New Windows 8 BUSINESS class-system tablet, says Todd Bradley.

HP is readying to unveil a NEW own "expandable" and "serviceable" business tablet that is being backed up by one of the most aggressive HP channel sales enablement efforts in years.

Among the new HP tablet's channel-friendly features that mark it as a business-class system will be the ability for business partners to expand it with different options for specific vertical business solutions and to open the tablet to service it, said Todd Bradley, executive vice president of HP's $65 billion printing and personal systems business, in an exclusive interview Thursday with CRN at HP's Andover, Mass. facility. "This is the only serviceable tablet there is," boasted Bradley. "It is serviceable, and it is expandable."

Bradley said HP has put more resources and muscle in terms of getting HP channel partners ready to sell the new tablet than any product offering since he joined the company in 2005. "It's all in with the channel, said Bradley. "We were with a whole group of partners last night for dinner. We talked about seed products for them to understand the tablet as well as seed products for their customers."

HP's Printing and Personal Systems Group (PPS) is planning a 20-city U.S. road show starting next month, inviting partners and their customers to see first-hand the benefits of the tablet and HP's full PPS product portfolio, said Bradley.
HP's all out focus on the channel is a big differentiator against both Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface Tablet product line, Bradley said. "From a competitive standpoint, we are showing a bigger commitment than any of them," he said.
"The product that we have developed, the serviceability of it, the ability for partners to make money with us on this tablet are just significant," said Bradley. "Compared to any of the other people in the marketplace, no one has a better focus on the enterprise than HP. The combination of an HP Windows 8 tablet gives enterprises the security that they want for their behind-the-firewall applications."
When asked what will be key differentiators vs. Apple, Bradley said serviceability, security, Windows 8 and easy access to current business applications all offer big improvements relative to the iPad.
As for the battle with Microsoft , Surface, Bradley stressed that the biggest differentiator against Microsoft is HP is leveraging it strong partner base. "First and foremost, we are focused on selling our product through the channel," said Bradley. "I think the message from Microsoft was: 'If you want to sell Surface, come to a store and buy one.'"
HP's channel focus puts the company well ahead of both Microsoft and Apple in bringing a tablet to business customers, said Mont Phelps, CEO of NWN, a national enterprise HP partner headquartered in Waltham, Mass.
"It is obvious to anybody that knows anything about the channel that neither Apple nor Microsoft has the channel that HP has," said Phelps. "That is going to be a tremendous advantage bringing a product like this to the market.
"I have seen people trying to force the iPad into business applications and business usage," said Phelps. "It just doesn't fit perfectly in business so there are compromises. What HP has is a business-ready tablet. If that is what they are saying, bring it on. Now we have something to go out and offer the marketplace. We have been looking for this for quite a while."
Bradley would not provide pricing or specific product details for the new HP Tablet which is expected to be announced sometime in the next several weeks just in time for all the hoopla around Microsoft's expected Windows 8 launch. HP will spend "minimal time, if any time, on the consumer side" of the tablet market "right now," he said.
