HP.com to sell a Palm Pre 2 unlocked .GSM?

WorldWideTech. Francisco De Jess  October 30,2010

According to the Senior Product Manager for the Palm Pre 2, Timothy Pettitt , HP is going to sell directly from HP.com an unlocked (GSM) version to the public in the coming months.

In October 19,2010 HP made a Press release: http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2010/101019a.html

HP introduces webOS 2.0 the Next Generation of Mobile Innovation.
And on the Availabilty section wrote:

Developers will be able to purchase unlocked UMTS versions of Pre 2 in the United States to use as a canvas to build the next generation of webOS applications and services. More information about the purchase program will be available at http://developer.palm.com/devdevices.html.

If Timothy Pettitt is not referring to that HP announcement  about unlocked devices for developers and are really coming to the general public , those are great news, for travelers in and out the US.

The date and the price is not revealed yet.  My guess is , it will be around the $400.- That is the price I paid for the Treo 680 GSM unlocked buying it directly from the Palm site back then 2005 in the US and bringing the device to my country Ecuador, South America.

Unless HP wants to get rid of the Palm Pre 2 fast ( was on the pipeline before HP acquisition of Palm ) and the price might be then $249.- perhaps, counting that HP have the pressure to make new announcements at the CES 2011 Jan 6-9.

Maybe the Palm Pad and new Palm webOS 2.0 smartphones with new hardware designs.

Rumors of the names of these possible devices have been around  on the web sometime before, like Palm Mansion , Palm Broadway and  Palm C-40.

On the video below you can watch what Timothy Pettitt said, about Verizon, SFR France and of the upcoming unlocked Palm Pre 2:
